                                  Chapter 10: The Northern Conflict

After the fall of New Aquilonia there was a mass exodus of clans who moved to the North because the green walls fell and crumbled fulfilling the visions that Priestess Leithia had revealed to the people.  All exiles were free to leave the desert but some remained in the cursed sands, roaming the wastelands in order to rob and kill any who may cross their paths.  The Atlanteans pushed north with King Conobar.  They built a mighty castle in the furthermost reaches of the north among the snow and uninhabitable ice.  The aftermath of New Aquilonia saw many tragedies among their people but the wayward sister Vex the Huntress returned to lead the Aquilonians north into exile.  They became known as the Aquilonian Exiles being that their empire was no more.

Time passed, a great sign appeared, an eclipse and the ground shook and Leithia drew breath once more at the feet of Mitra where her cousin Vex the Huntress found her.  Vex rushed to her cousin's aide but the Priestess's memory was gone and so they ventured north.  Vex took her to Green Haven, the village the Aquilonians were constructing and had nearly finished. They started to thrive yet again and as Leithia slowly recovered her memories a massive city was built by the Aquilonians Exiles called Artimia.  With a city in place the North started to flourish which brought clans such as Chesire, House Assuri, The Unstoppables, Reavers of Yog, House Gazelle, Auriconian Mercs, the Northern Wall, The Iron Price, The Wulf Pack, the Frost Wolf Clan, and the Black River Clan.  These clans helped form villages, trade posts, and taverns but with any glimpse of civilization comes those who are jealous of what others have accomplished through working together.   Two of the mightiest, most deadliest clans stepped forward to destroy and take from others what had been built through hard work, the Order of Yog and Atali's Warriors.  Both these clans secretly made deals with the city of Artimia in order to keep commerce ties with the city under the agreement that they would not raid it but other clans were not so lucky.

The Wulf Pack were flourishing from being built so close to the city and their very village was itself starting to become a city of it's own right.  This was not pleasing to neither Mortom nor Pemberly of the Order of Yog who overlooked Artimia so they decided to take it amongst themselves to destroy which they thought undermined their interests and to also benefit from the spoilers of war.  So, they descended upon The Wulf Pack village like a plague of locusts.  They showed them no quarter and as Atali's Warriors passed by they too decided to join in on the looting and destruction of this one fine village.  Bealin the Architect and Cora the Shield Maiden looked down, frightened by the destruction that was unfolding.  They fought with all their might as well as their guards but it wasn't enough to push off the attackers.  Their greed could not be quenched.  The loot wasn't enough, they wanted to send a message to these people so they decided to burn the village to the ground.

Bealin and Cora fled to a nearby house she had constructed and watched as their city perished among the flames.  But as the raiders left fulfilling their lust for violence a man stood out from among the ashes. Pushing their way through the wreckage as they returned to try to see what they could salvage they approached this tall mysterious figure.  Not clearly seeing who he was among the smoke. He offered his aide, feeling for these poor villagers who had been pillaged and offered to take them under his wing.  They weren't sure if he could be trusted so they simply asked his name....."King Conobar," he answered, "Leader of the Atlantean People, conqueror of the Aquilonian Empire.  I am here to help you rebuild but you must join my Empire if you wish to live free of violence and must build me a grand city in honor of my greatness."

They agreed and The Wulf Clan became part of the Atlantean Empire.  When the ashes settled and long before Conobar ever had thought to help.  Leithia had been working on an alliance with The Wulf Pack leader Brihtwulf but the raiders descended and as they were traveling back to sign the agreement at his village they stood before what was left of it.  And there for what felt like an eternity to Leithia stood the man who took everything from her.  Conobar, her husband, her king, the traitor.  With Leithia regaining her memory and knowing who Conobar was and that he was back to rebuild his Empire.....Who knows how long this delicate peace between the Atlanteans and Aquilonians will last....for the thirst of vengeance is never fleeting.....
